Landscape design-build · Phoenix

We design your garden. Then we build it.

Planting plans, hardscape drawings, and the full build — drawn on paper, staked in caliche, grown in Sonoran soil. One studio, from the first sketch to the last stone.

How we work · the drawing

Nothing gets built here until it has been drawn.

Drawn, not templated

Planting plans, plant schedules, and hardscape sections rendered by hand before a single trench is opened — so you approve the garden on paper first.

¼″ = 1′

Every plan drawn to a quarter-inch scale. What you sign off is what grows.

Read by the crew that drew it

The people staking the site are the ones who set the trees on the plan. No drawing gets lost in a handoff between studio and build.

From sketch to shade

Four seasons of a project, in order.

01

Walk the ground

We meet in your yard and read it — the light through the day, the caliche under the soil, where the summer runoff goes, the views you keep and the ones you would rather hide. Nothing is measured from a satellite photo.

02

Draw the plan

Back at the drafting table: a scaled planting plan, hardscape sections, a plant schedule, and an honest build estimate.

03

Break ground

Grading, footings, drip irrigation, stone and weathering steel — set by the crew that read the drawings, checked against the plan every morning.

04

Plant & hand over

Trees, agave, and groundcover set into amended Sonoran soil so they root deep and drink little. Then a full season of check-ins while the garden takes hold — we do not disappear once the invoice is paid.

The studio

A yard is a slow thing. We build it that way.

Rowan Yard is a small design-build studio. We draw desert gardens at a drafting table, then build them with our own crew — the same people on the paper and in the dirt.

We plant what belongs here: palo verde and ironwood for shade, ocotillo and desert spoon for structure, brittlebush and globe mallow for the spring color that arrives without a hose. Everything set in amended Sonoran soil so it roots deep and drinks little through July.

Hands setting dry-stacked flagstone alongside a drafting triangle

Our hardscape is honest material — dry-stacked Arizona flagstone, decomposed granite underfoot, weathering-steel edging, and ramadas framed in rough cedar. We would rather use less and use it well than fill a yard with things that fade by the second summer.

You will find us Monday through Friday, 10 to 4, at the yard on South 37th Way. Bring photos, a rough budget, and the one corner of the garden you already love — we will build outward from there.
